  1. Demonstrate the ability to connect with their patients, empathize, and provide humanistic care
  2. Effectively screen for substance misuse.
  3. Identify referral options and level of care placement based on American Society of Addiction Medicine Criteria.
  4. Discuss the benefits of buprenorphine for chronic pain.
  5. Utilize motivational interviewing to assess readiness for change and activate motivated patients along the continuum of change behavior.
  6. Identify evidence-based treatments available in primary care settings for substance use disorders.
  7. Effectively manage common pain conditions with non-opioid therapies.
  8. Identify examples of environment modifying genes that influence brain development.
