Overview

CAP-CT Presents the legal and social roles of caregivers and the implications for healthcare teams.  Learn from the experts how primary care clinicians and their teams can navigate financial planning and legal issues in caregiving from Advanced Care Planning to Fiduciary and Trustee.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Understand key roles and responsibilities of caregivers, including legal terms.
  2. Describe how and when to identify members of a patient's caregiving team, particularly around financial and medical decisions.
  3. Demonstrate ways to document caregiving teams and their legal status, i.e. power of attorney, healthcare proxy and VA fiduciary

Legal Aspects of Caregiving (Live - 60 minutes):

This live course provides practical guidance on navigating the legal and planning issues that frequently arise when working with patients and their family caregivers. Early identification of the legal roles of caregivers and knowing who matters to the patient facilitates better care. The course is for interprofessional care teams, with a focus on primary care.

Objectives:

  1. Understand key roles and responsibilities of caregivers, including legal terms

  2. Describe how and when to identify members of a patient’s caregiving team, particularly around medical and financial decisions

  3. Demonstrate ways to document caregiving teams and their legal status, i.e., power of attorney, healthcare proxy, and VA fiduciary


This session is designed to support providers and care teams in delivering person- and family-centered, legally informed care.
