Overview

A presentation of practical strategies for the elimination of disparities in cardiovascular disease, including highlights from The Los Angeles Barbershop Blood Pressure Study, a review of important parts of the 2017 American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association (ACC/AHA) blood pressure guideline and treatment recommendations, three critical components to achieving blood pressure control, and six steps to improve patient understanding. The live lecture for this recording occurred on February 13, 2023.

You must complete all required content and post-tests to receive CME credit. To obtain a CME certificate, return to My CME and complete the assigned evaluation under Evaluations and Certificates. 

For participants that need Maintenance of Certification, be sure to complete the MOC attestation in the Course Content once you have completed all required elements.

MOC Approval Statement (ABIM Only):
Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 0.50 Medical Knowledge MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine's (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify and implement evidence-based tactics that can improve cardiovascular health with focus on lipids and hypertension (HTN).
  2. Recognize improvement ideas to control HTN and address cardiovascular disparities.
  3. Implement practical steps to eliminate disparities.
