Overview

The Mary & Steve Wen Cardiovascular Division and the Center for Global Cardiometabolic Health and Nutrition are hosting the Orange County Symposium for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention.

This course is designed to fill knowledge gaps in the fast-evolving field of preventive cardiology. Primary care providers, cardiologists, endocrinologists, lifestyle interventionists, and other specialists will be updated this year on:

  1. Newer and Emerging Approaches for Cardiovascular Risk Reduction

  2. Nutrition, Lifestyle, and Cardiometabolic Risks

  3. Cardiovascular Risk Assessment, Risk Factors, and Prevention


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Understand the evidence relating dietary approaches for CVD prevention
  2. Understand the role of artificial intelligence in assessment of risk and improving outcomes for CVD
  3. Understand the role of inflammation in CVD and newer therapeutic options
  4. Understand the role of coronary calcium and opportunistic testing in preventive cardiology
  5. Understand the evolving role of hormone replacement therapy, Vitamin D and calcium supplementation, and lessons learned from the Women’s Health Initiative and beyond
  6. Understand and implement team-based models for integrative and preventive cardiology
  7. Understand the pros and cons of resistance vs. aerobic exercise and their evidence for improving cardiovascular outcomes
  8. Understand the evidence and how to implement time restricted eating to optimize cardiovascular risks
  9. Understand the new Cardio-Kidney-Metabolic syndrome and its assessment and management
  10. Understand the evidence and how to use GLP1-Ras and related therapies for improving outcomes in diabetes and obesity
  11. Understand the techniques for improving measurement of blood pressure and newer therapeutic options
  12. Understand ASCVD risk reduction and goals of therapy for targeting LDL-C and triglyceride rich lipoproteins
