Grand Rounds was established by the UCI Department of Pathology in 1993 as an ongoing continuing education program for faculty and laboratory staff. Topics have included current faculty research updates, differentiation and diagnosis of various disease states, analysis of current guidelines, and clinical applications of new testing methodologies. Emphasis is also placed on discussion of the clinical applications of current research and the role of the laboratory in specific areas of patient care. The seminars can also address non-technical topics of interest such as patient safety, compliance, and regulatory issues.

1. Apply relevant clinical and laboratory findings to the diagnosis and treatment of current and emerging disease states
2. Utilize best practices to help develop multidisciplinary approaches to patient care
3. Analyze current issues impacting laboratory systems such as utilization management, healthcare policy, and regulatory change
4. Critically review recent developments in scientific research and their application to the practice of pathology and laboratory medicine
5. Incorporate current professional guidelines and recommendations in the diagnostic decision-making process
