Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. This program will provide, thorough formal lectures, question-and-answer sessions and a hands-on workshop, updates on new approaches in the diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal, liver diseases and cancer for invasive and non-invasive methods. The methods include case-based discussion, lecture, panel, simulation, and skill-based training.
  2. Learn to manage biologic therapy around the time of surgery Improving knowledge about management of biologic therapy during surgery
  3. Discuss cancer risk in the IBD patient Ability to discuss risk of cancer development in patients with IBD as well as more biologic and immunomodulator therapy
  4. Discuss what’s new in management of biliary and pancreatic diseases Understand the latest developments in management of biliary and pancreatic diseases
  5. Review current diagnostic and treatment paradigms for Barrett’s and esophageal cancer Develop the ideal future paradigm for detecting and treating Barrett’s and esophageal cancer. Current diagnostic and treatment paradigms for Barrett’s cancer
  6. Which polyps to worry about, how to recognize them and how they can/should be removed Interval colorectal cancers could be reduced by over 85% by eliminating polyp miss rate and assuring complete polyp resection
  7. Incorporate advances in disease monitoring and quality metrics that should be utilized in the management of IBD patients Facilitate utilization of biologic drug monitoring to improve care of patients.
  8. Describe the medical and surgical management of perianal Crohn’s disease and know how to provide resources for patients Improved non-operative and operative management of perianal Crohn’s disease as well as more referrals for specialized
  9. Explain positioning of IBD Biologic therapies for Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis. Understanding when to refer to Tertiary care for complex cases Evidence based approach to choosing first, second and third line therapies.

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to: • Screen, diagnose, and manage viral hepatitis B • Screen, diagnose, and manage viral hepatitis C • Diagnose and manage non-alcoholic fatty liver disease • Diagnose and Manage patients with hepatocellular carcinoma By providing updated medical education, this CME program will improve the clinical knowledge and skills in managing those common chronic liver diseases.
  11. Understand the risks, benefits and appropriate utilization of the contemporary medical, surgical and endoscopic therapies for GERD patients. Evidence based approach to choosing between medical, endoscopic and surgical therapy for patients with GERD
  12. Understanding the risk of progression of pancreatic cysts. Understanding an evidence based approach to choosing an imaging modality for pancreatic cyst surveillance Understanding the appropriate approach for when to send pancreatic cysts for surgical resection Evidence based approach to choosing an imaging modality for pancreatic cyst surveillance and an approach for when to send pancreatic cysts for surgical resection
  13. Evidence base approach to understanding the pros and cons of novel weight loss and bariatric options.
  14. - Enhance knowledge of current diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions, including GERD, colorectal cancer, biliary malignancies, esophageal diverticula, obesity, pelvic floor disorders, and functional GI disorders.
  15. Review evidence based guidelines for these disease processes
  16. Allow opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration across multiple disciplines and amongst our academic and community providers
  17. Update attendees on the latest techniques in minimally invasive surgery and endoscopic interventions
  18. Apply knowledge gained through case-based discussions to improve clinical decision-making in the management of complex gastrointestinal conditions
  19. Incorporate culturally competent and patient-centered care approaches to best serve our diverse patient population
  20. Participate in hands-on training for advanced endoscopic techniques with expert guidance
