Overview
Accumulating evidence shows that holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) is associated with more favorable outcomes than other endoscopic approaches including shorter hospital stay, reduced bleeding complications, and shorter catheterization time. Moreover, HoLEP is not limited by size of the prostate i.e., size independent endoscopic treatment modality. Despite the above advantages, the long learning curve estimated to range from 30-50 cases hinders the wide adoption of this technique.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify the psychomotor skills and cognitive knowledge required to perform a laser enucleation of the prostate procedure from experts in the field.
  2. Complete 3 full HoLEP procedures on simulation hydrogel models.
  3. Day 2: Expert led didactic sessions. One to one expert proctoring.
  4. Day 3: Independent HoLEP hands on session after expert proctoring
  5. Engage in discussions with an expert panel to master ‘tips & tricks’ of laser enucleation of the prostate.
  6. Access to a library of videos and resources from experts as a continual reference.

INDEPENDENTLY PERFORM A HOLEP PROCEDURE USING HYDROGEL SIMULATION MODEL
3:00PM - 7:00PM
Akhil Das, MD (Facilitator)
Joel T Funk, MD, FACS (Facilitator)
Bruce Gao, MD (Facilitator)

(1-Hour Session Per Participant)

Prior to expert instruction during the masterclass, each participant will independently perform a HoLEP procedure using hydrogel simulation models.

Participants will select a dedicated one-hour time slot upon confirmed registration and payment. Each procedure will be recorded, and participants will receive copies of their recordings following completion of the masterclass for future review and learning.

Objectives:
By the conclusion of this masterclass, participants will be able to:
• Identify and apply the psychomotor skills, operative techniques, and cognitive decision-making required to safely and effectively perform Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP).
• Demonstrate improved procedural competency through completion of three (3) full HoLEP procedures on hydrogel simulation models, including:
1. One (1) independently performed baseline HoLEP procedure prior to expert instruction.
2. One (1) full HoLEP procedure performed with dedicated one-to-one expert proctoring and feedback.
3. One (1) independently performed HoLEP procedure following expert instruction and proctoring to reinforce technical mastery and procedural confidence.
• Develop proficiency in critical components of HoLEP, including enucleation technique, tissue plane identification, laser control, operative flow, and morcellation principles.
• Analyze semi-live surgical case reviews with expert faculty to strengthen intraoperative judgment, troubleshooting strategies, and management of challenging scenarios.
• Integrate evidence-based techniques, procedural “tips and tricks,” and best practices shared during expert-led didactic sessions and panel discussions into clinical practice.
• Evaluate personal procedural performance through recorded simulation review to support ongoing self-assessment, skill refinement, and continued learning after the masterclass.
